New York Fashion Week (or NYFW as we like to know it) consistently has my favourite looks out of the whole fashion month, so I've picked three looks I loved from New York and styled them in this 'Get The Look' post with a Beauxoxo hair accessory. What look is your favourite?
Rodarte This is for sure the most stunning collection of the season so far for me. Flower power and blooming beautiful are two descriptions that speaks to mind! This truly colourful collection, with florals everywhere, lashings of pastels and turquoise lids and ruby red lips, is everything my spring/summer style is all about. Interestingly, this collection had a gothic theme, set in a Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Manhattan. I absolutely love that it was also deeply inspired by Picasso portraits that James Kaliardos had seen in a Tate Modern exhibition (if it's the same one I saw it's truly incredible!). And so with James Kaliardos creating the colourful and abstract make-up and Odile Gilbert masterminding the floral encrusted hair, Rodarte designed the most ethereal, romantic gowns for a truly stunning collection.
Anna SuiGrowing up, and still to this day, Anna Sui is one of my favourite designers and a huge inspiration on my work. And in her new SS19, that starred Gigi and Bella Hadid, the theme was 'Wanderlust' where you can escape the ordinary and dive into a world filled with exuberant whimsy and cultural exploration. And the result is simply stunning! The show worked to complement the architecture and foliage that mimicked the city streets of Morrocco and harks back to Sui's memory of her exotic travels through markets around the world. With rich tones that would work perfectly for this season as well as next, this was such a standout look for me.
The fashion world is still feeling the huge loss of Kate Spade and many wondered how they would honour the incredible talent and personality of Kate. So I think it's so poignant this could the form of envelopes tucked into the designer notes that read, 'she left a little sparkle everywhere she went.' In Loving Memory1962-2018. This is the most heartwarming tribute to this incredible ray of light that still lives on through her vibe style and designs. And then came the challenge for Nicola Glass, Kate Spade NY’s new creative director as to how she would steer this new collection. But truly tastefully, Glass has taken the characteristic of Kate's style and applied it by muting colours, reworking the interlocking spade design on handbags, and other quiet little touches that are noticeable, but not so different that it's disrespectful. I think the retro and Vintage still with ’40s and ’70s styles further complemented the essence of the Kate Spade brand. In terms of accessories, for this collection, Glass brings back headscarves from a bandana motif to floral patterns. The scarves were styled into highly coiffed hairstyles involving a lot of hairspray for a true pin up girl vibe!
